Free Question Keyword Finder
A free question keyword finder that pulls the real questions people type into Google, grouped by what, how, why and 10 more question words.
What is a question keyword finder?
A question keyword finder is a keyword research tool that collects the questions people actually type into a search engine about a topic. This one sends your seed to Google Autocomplete with 13 question words and 6 prepositions, then groups every live suggestion so you can see which questions to answer first.
Questions are the cleanest signal of search intent you will ever get. Someone who types “keyword research” could want a tool, a course or a definition. Someone who types “how long does keyword research take” has told you exactly what the page must say. That is why question keywords tend to be long-tail keywords with clear intent, modest competition and a direct path into People Also Ask boxes, featured snippets and AI Overviews.
Paid platforms show you a search volume and keyword difficulty next to each question. We don’t, because Google Autocomplete doesn’t publish numbers and we refuse to invent them. What you get instead is the raw, current list of what Google itself predicts people are asking in the country and language you pick, which is the same source tools like AnswerThePublic started from.
What this free tool does
Every run queries Google Autocomplete in real time through our server, so the list reflects what people search this week, not a stale database.
What, how, why, when, where, which, who, can, is, does, are, should and will, each placed in front of your seed.
For, with, without, vs, near and to reveal use cases, comparisons and local angles that plain questions miss.
Results are sorted into question-word groups, with a sortable table view and a quick filter for words like “free” or “2026”.
Tick the questions you plan to answer and export a ready FAQPage JSON-LD skeleton plus an H2/H3 outline for your writer.
Switch Google’s gl and hl parameters to research questions in Pakistan, the UAE, the UK or 20+ other markets.
How to find question keywords in four steps
1. Enter a short seed
Use one to three words, such as “keyword research” or “solar panels”. Short seeds return far more questions than long phrases.
2. Pick country and language
Choose the market you write for. Questions about the same topic differ a lot between the US, India and Pakistan.
3. Run and review the groups
Click Find Questions. The tool makes up to 20 Autocomplete lookups and groups the answers by question word and preposition.
4. Select and export
Tick the questions worth answering, then copy them, download a CSV, or export the FAQ schema starter and outline.
Which question words signal which search intent?
Not all questions are equal. In client audits we sort them by the first word before we look at anything else, because the opener predicts the format Google rewards. Here is the cheat sheet we use, with real-looking examples for the seed “keyword research”.
| Question word | Usual intent | Format that tends to rank | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| What / Who | Informational, definition | 40–60 word definition, then detail | what is keyword research in seo |
| How | Informational, process | Numbered steps, screenshots, video | how to do keyword research for free |
| Why | Informational, reasoning | Short argument with evidence | why is keyword research important |
| Which / Should | Commercial investigation | Comparison table, clear recommendation | which keyword research tool is best |
| Can / Is / Does / Will | Yes/no, objection handling | Answer yes or no in the first sentence | can chatgpt do keyword research |
| When / Where | Timing, location, local | Dates, lists, maps or local pages | when to do keyword research |
| vs / without / for | Comparison, use case | Side-by-side pages, niche guides | keyword research for youtube |
A practical rule: “how” and “what” questions usually belong inside a pillar guide as H2s, while “which” and “vs” questions often deserve their own page because the intent is commercial and the SERP features differ. If a single seed returns 60 questions, expect to cover maybe 15 of them in one article and spin three or four into separate posts. That is how topical authority actually gets built, one answered question at a time.
How do you turn question keywords into pages that rank and get cited?
Finding questions is the easy part. Here is the workflow our SEO team follows after exporting the list:
- Cluster first. Merge questions that share an answer (“is keyword research hard” and “is keyword research difficult” are one question).
- Check the live SERP. Search each shortlisted question on Google Search. If you see a People Also Ask box or an AI Overview, write a tight 40–60 word answer directly under the heading.
- Use the question as the heading. Exact-match H2 or H3 questions make it easy for Google and for AI Mode to lift your answer as a passage.
- Validate demand. Paste the top questions into Google Keyword Planner or Google Trends. Many question keywords show “0–10” searches yet still bring steady traffic in aggregate.
- Add FAQ markup sparingly. Since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results mainly for well-known government and health sites, so treat FAQPage schema as structure for machines, not a guaranteed SERP feature.
One honest trade-off: Autocomplete favours popular phrasings and hides very rare questions. For niche B2B topics, pair this list with questions from sales calls, support tickets and Reddit threads. Those rarely show up in any tool, which is exactly why they are worth answering.
Frequently asked questions
Is this question keyword finder really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no credit card and no daily search cap beyond a fair-use limit of 60 lookups per minute that keeps the service fast for everyone.
Where do the questions come from?
They come from Google Autocomplete, fetched live for the country and language you choose. Each run combines your seed with up to 13 question words and 6 prepositions.
Does the tool show search volume for each question?
No. Autocomplete does not provide search volume, and we will not show made-up numbers. Use the Google and Trends links in the table, or Google Keyword Planner, to check demand.
How is this different from AnswerThePublic or AlsoAsked?
AnswerThePublic also uses autocomplete data but limits free searches, and AlsoAsked maps People Also Ask questions. This tool is free, live, and adds an FAQ schema starter and CSV export.
Will FAQ schema get my questions a rich result?
Probably not on its own. Google limited FAQ rich results in 2023 to authoritative government and health sites. The markup still describes your Q&A content clearly for search engines.
How many questions should one article answer?
Answer the questions that share one intent, often 8 to 15 per article. Questions with a different intent, like comparisons or pricing, usually deserve their own page.
