Free Voice Search SEO Checker
Test any page with this free voice search SEO checker: question headings, short answers, readability, mobile, speed signals, schema and local NAP.
What does a voice search SEO checker test?
A voice search SEO checker tests whether a page can supply a short spoken answer. It looks for question-style headings, a direct answer of about 30 to 40 words under each one, plain readable language, a mobile-friendly and fast page, and structured data such as FAQPage or LocalBusiness schema that assistants can parse.
Voice assistants rarely read out a list of ten blue links. They pick one passage and speak it. That makes voice search optimization a sharper version of featured snippet work: the page has to rank, the passage has to be easy to lift out, and it has to sound natural when read aloud. Paste a URL above and the tool fetches the page through our server, parses the HTML in your browser and scores 15 to 20 signals. You can also paste raw HTML or a draft in plain text, which is handy before a page goes live.
The checker is honest about its limits. It cannot see your rankings or what Google Assistant, Siri or Alexa actually say for a query. It tells you whether the page is built the way spoken answers tend to be built, and what to change.
Features
The signals we found most useful when auditing pages for spoken answers, AI Overviews and Google AI Mode.
Finds H1 to H4 headings phrased as questions (what, how, why, can, does…) and counts how many sections match conversational search.
Measures the first paragraph under every question. 10 to 40 words passes, up to 60 is a warning, longer is a rewrite.
Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid grade and average sentence length, calculated on the main content only, not menus or footers.
HTTPS, viewport tag, zoom blocking, HTML size, script and stylesheet counts, lazy images and a rough fetch time.
Reads every JSON-LD block, lists the types, flags invalid JSON and checks FAQPage, speakable and LocalBusiness properties.
For local pages: visible phone, click-to-call link, street address, plus name, address, telephone, hours and geo in schema.
How to use the voice search checker
1. Enter a URL or paste content
Type a public page URL, or paste the HTML source or a plain-text draft. Pasted content always wins over the URL.
2. Tick local if it is a business page
Select the local option for service-area, store or clinic pages so the tool checks LocalBusiness schema and visible NAP details.
3. Run the check
Click Check Voice Readiness. You get a 0 to 100 score, readability stats and every check sorted with failures first.
4. Fix and re-test
Open the Question answers tab, tighten long answers using the spoken preview, fix red items, then export the report as CSV or TXT.
How long should a voice search answer be?
Keep the direct answer to about 30 to 40 words, roughly two short sentences. Backlinko’s 2019 analysis of 10,000 Google Home results found the typical spoken answer was 29 words long. Put that answer immediately under the question heading, then expand with detail, steps or a table below it.
Length is only half of it. The answer also needs to stand on its own. “It depends on several factors” is useless when spoken. “Most asphalt shingle roofs take one to two days to replace; metal or steep roofs can take up to five” works, because a listener gets the fact without context. Our checker shows a spoken-answer preview for each question so you can hear the problem in your head.
| Signal | Good target | Why it matters for voice |
|---|---|---|
| Direct answer | 10–40 words under the question | Short passages are easy to read aloud in full |
| Readability | Flesch 60+, grade 9 or lower | Spoken language is plain; jargon sounds awkward |
| Sentence length | Under 20 words on average | Listeners cannot re-read a long sentence |
| Question headings | 3 or more per long page | Matches how people phrase spoken queries |
| Mobile and HTTPS | Viewport tag, secure URL | Most voice searches happen on phones |
| Local data | LocalBusiness schema + visible NAP | Powers “near me”, “open now” and call actions |
Is voice search optimization still worth it with AI answers?
Yes, and the reason has changed. Smart speakers grabbed the headlines a few years ago. Today the bigger audience is people talking to assistants on their phones and using conversational search in Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Gemini. Those systems still pull answers from web pages, and they favour the same things voice assistants always did: a clear question, a clean answer, structured data and a trustworthy, fast site. So the work you do for voice also feeds answer engine optimization (AEO), generative engine optimization (GEO) and featured snippets. That is why we score it as one readiness check.
A few points we would not overstate. Speakable markup is still a beta feature for English-language news publishers, so a plumber or SaaS site gains little from it; the tool marks it as information only. FAQ schema no longer earns FAQ rich results for most sites, since Google limited them to well-known government and health websites in August 2023, but it still describes your questions and answers in a format machines read well. And zero-click searches are real: a spoken answer may not send a visit. For local businesses that is fine, because the action is often a call or directions, which is why the NAP and click-to-call checks carry extra weight.
Local voice searches need extra care
“Plumber near me open now” or “how late is the pharmacy on Main Street open” are answered from business data, much of it from your Google Business Profile. The page still matters. Keep name, address and phone identical on the page, in LocalBusiness schema and on the profile, add opening hours to the schema, and use a tel: link so “call them” works in one tap. Entity SEO helps here too: a consistent name and address make it easy to connect your site to the business entity.
Reading the score
Each check is weighted. Question-and-answer structure and readability count most, then mobile, schema and speed, then housekeeping such as language and meta tags. A pass earns full points, a warning half and a fail none; information-only checks such as speakable do not affect the score.
- 80–100: the page is built for spoken answers. Polish warnings and focus on rankings and links.
- 55–79: the basics are there, but some answers are too long or key data is missing.
- Below 55: start with red items. Usually that means adding question headings and short answers.
For the content itself, pair this checker with our voice search keyword generator to find the questions people speak, and the direct answer generator to write the 40-word answers. Check search intent first with the keyword intent classifier so the answer matches what the searcher wants.
Frequently asked questions
Is this voice search SEO checker free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no limits beyond a fair-use rate limit. Pasted HTML is analysed in your browser and is never stored.
Why can’t the tool fetch my page?
Some sites block automated requests or require JavaScript to render content. Open the page, view the source, copy all of it and paste it into the HTML box instead.
Does the checker test Core Web Vitals?
No. It estimates page weight from the HTML, scripts and images, and shows a rough fetch time. Use Google PageSpeed Insights for LCP, INP and CLS field data.
Do I need speakable schema for voice search?
Usually not. Speakable is a beta property that Google supports for English news content on Google Assistant. Most business sites should focus on short answers and core schema instead.
Will FAQ schema help my page get read aloud?
It may help machines understand your questions and answers, but Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites since 2023. Write good visible answers first.
What is a good readability score for voice search?
Aim for a Flesch Reading Ease score of 60 or higher and a grade level of 9 or lower. Short sentences and everyday words sound natural when an assistant reads them.
