Free Redirect Checker
Follow every redirect of a URL and see the status codes, hops and final page. Find 302s that should be 301s, loops, HTTPS downgrades and meta refreshes – and test the http/www versions of your site.
What is a Redirect Checker?
A redirect checker follows a URL hop by hop and shows each status code (301, 302, 307, 308) until it reaches the final page. It tells you whether redirects are permanent, how many hops there are and whether the final page actually works.
Wrong redirects lose rankings after site moves, slow down pages and confuse Google about which URL to index. This checker shows the full redirect path, explains every status code and tests the duplicate versions of your domain.

Common problems and how to fix them
| Problem | Why it matters | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| 302 instead of 301 | Google may keep the old URL. | Use 301 for permanent moves. |
| Redirect chains | Slower pages, wasted crawl budget. | Redirect straight to the final URL. |
| Redirect loop | The page never loads. | Remove the conflicting rule. |
| Redirect to a 404 | Visitors and link value are lost. | Point to a live, relevant page. |
| Meta refresh | Slow and weak signal. | Use a server-side 301. |
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 301 and 302?
301 means moved permanently and passes ranking signals to the new URL. 302 means temporary, so Google may keep the old URL in its index.
What are 307 and 308?
307 is a temporary and 308 a permanent redirect that keep the request method. Google treats 308 like 301 and 307 like 302.
How many redirects are too many?
Aim for one. Google follows up to 10 hops, but every hop adds delay and risk.
Do redirects lose link value?
No. Google has confirmed that 301, 302 and 308 redirects pass PageRank. Chains still slow crawling and loading.
How do I add a redirect in WordPress?
Use Rank Math > Redirections, a redirect plugin, or add a rule to .htaccess with our generator.
